A great curiosity about the natural world swept Europe in the 18th century. Botanical enthusiasts created ambitious gardens and exchanged information, seeds, roots, bulbs, and plant cuttings. Only the grandest of gardens in Europe and America used decorative urns. Many were classically inspired and generally made of stone or occasionally lead.
